In front of me lies a simple black-and-white 132 page manual which is claimed to be worth $997 in content…
No particular special binding. Just a letter size paperback with the pages glued into the spine. Not even a fancy exposure of artistic design talent on the cover. It’s plain white with a black Times New Roman type face…
I’ve always been intruiged with the fact that business owners have a different perception of how a costly manual ought to look like. A book which looks like Joe Vitale’s Hypnotic Selling Secrets Master Course surely wouldn’t be sold much in the book store for that price!
But there you bump into the first obstacle the mind throws at you when you are about to start your own business:
- Are you selling books?
- Or are you selling information…
When you believe you are selling books, your mind will wonder of into the chambers of your memory where it collected your visits to your favorite book store. In your mind’s eye you are again browsing the shelves. Searching for an entertaining novel to pass time commuting the subways. Or an exotic cookbook for your husband’s ever growing collection of around-the-world recipes. Or perhaps a beautifully illustrated fairytale for your grandson’s birthday…
And as you recall pulling the books from the shelve, browsing the pages and checking the price, subconsciously you are comparing and calculating what would be a right price to ask for the book you are about to sell.
Your past experiences in the book store have now framed your mindset. An invisible cage has been closed around your future possibilities. Ask your potential customers $997 for your upcoming manual? You think not…
‘I love to think big. I also love to read about people who set ‘impossible’ goals and then achieve them. Whether it is Roger Bannister breaking the four-minute mile, or NASA sending a man to the moon, or Bruce Barton writing a fund raising letter that pulls a 100% response, or a 93-year-old woman skydiving, all of it proves we have no known limits. None.’
- Joe Vitale in ‘Hypnotic Selling Secrets Master Course’
Thus the course starts by introducing you to the concept that only the mind is limiting your possibilities. Sowing a tiny seed in your head - hey, if others achieved the impossible, who says I cannot do the same thing?
The Hypnotic Selling Secrets Master Course is all about writing. Writing words which pull your readers in and make them yearn for learning more. Painting images in their head which the readers color with their imagination. Gently inviting them into ‘a focused mental state where they are inclined to buy your product or service.’
My first response to such sentences is not too good. (Yes my precious, it’s tricksy…)
But then Joe asks me…
- Are you trying to start a cult?
- Are you trying to sell snake oil?
Of course I’m not!
I believe in my product. I want to help people and yes, I also want to make money as I do…
‘Hypnotic writing is a form of waking hypnosis. This isn’t magical or mystical. It’s no different than being absorbed in a good movie. Or being riveted by a good book. Or driving down the highway for hours and being ‘zoomed out.’ In each instance you are in a waking trance.’
‘A waking trance is a concentration of attention. You are focused on something before you, to the exclusion of virtually all else. Whenever you read a fascinating book, you are engaged in a mild trance. Because your eyes are open, this state is called a waking trance.
- Joe Vitale in ‘Hypnotic Selling Secrets Master Course’
Have you ever tried taking 2-year old twins into a fashion shop to buy a new pair of jeans? Well, you probably don’t have twins. Just a single 2-year old then…
If you have, you will know that to try this will most likely result in the worst shopping experience of your life!
While you are struggling to press your still slightly bulging belly into these fantastic looking jeans, your kid has discovered it can play hide-and-seek between the clothes. Hearing the loud cries of laughter, you peek around the curtain. Judging by the look of the shop attendant, she is becoming increasingly annoyed by your todler’s behavior…
So you try to speed up your dressing. But you cannot get the zipper up and you know you will have to undress, dress again in your own clothes, change the jeans for a larger size and start again. You snap at your child and tell him to stand quietly as it waits for you to finish fitting clothes. Which of course it cannot, even though you are certain it isn’t suffering from ADHD.
And already as you walk back into the dressing room, you change your mind and decide today is NOT a good day for shopping. You put the clothes back, grab your todler by the arm and rush home. (With twins only after offering to repay the havoc they wrecked in the window display when nobody was looking…)
Such a shopping experience is as far from a waking trance as you can imagine.
Your experience would have been infinitely better without your child. Most likely you would have ended up buying not only the jeans, but a nice shirt to go with it. And since you’re spending money anyway, why not also indulge in a new pair of sandals from the shoe shop across the street…
When you are feeling relaxed and enjoying your environment - being served well and thouthfully by the shop keepers - you will be all the more likely to spend money.
On the internet such an environment can be created by the right use of words.
‘In other words, you get people so interested in your website, or email, or sales letter, that almost nothing else matters. And if you do this right, your Hypnotic Writing will lead your readers to take action.’
- Joe Vitale in ‘Hypnotic Selling Secrets Master Course’
And that is what this course teaches. How to create an environment with words that puts your readers into a waking trance. And if you do that right, you sell. Not just a little. You sell well!
Hypnotic Writing isn’t an art form. It is a skill and as such it can be learned. One of the chapters in this course is completely devoted to a simple method of how you can change average writing into hypnotic writing. Once you know how people think you’ll know which type of words trigger the response you want.
You will discover the key elements to include in your sales letters. How to structure them so that your readers continue from one paragraph to the next. Painting more images with your words as you weave some hypnotic stories into your copy. Making sure you address both the rational and the emotional interests.
Joe has heavily influenced my own copywriting. Taking what I learned from him, I produced one of the best sales letters I ever wrote which had a 13% conversion rate…
If you are interested in finding out just how Joe influenced my writing for success, you can download the letter from the link below:

Don’t worry - even if you get tempted to buy this product, you can’t. The links in this pdf don’t lead to functioning order buttons any longer…
Tomorrow I’ll be back with information about Joe’s Hypnotic Selling Secrets workshops. Till then!
